Narrow Boats

Narrow boats were popular to transport goods between towns and villages before cars and trucks. They were often pulled by horses from the footpath that runs alongside the canal.

They are luxuriously slow, slightly slower than two middle age people walking their golden retriever.

We picked up our narrow boat in a small town about an hour from Dublin, Vickerstown. Instead of horses the narrow boat is run by a three stroke engine. I don’t really know what that means, however John is very versed in boatiness. Which is very handy in this particular circumstance.
